About Her Goal

My daughter Elisabeth is a second year Girl Scout. As a learning lesson in charity and empathy (and math!) we have decided to start on a  journey to try to collect one million pennies, by her birthday in April, to be donated to the Girl Scouts of Japan to aid in their relief efforts after the devastating earthquake and tsunami.

While a million pennies may seem an unreachable goal, half the fun is the journey and I hope the lessons she learns in this experiment will be ones she carries throughout her life. Here is a link to a message from the Girl Scouts of Japan and their request for monentary donations at this point in time. WAGGS is the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, of which both Japan and the US are a part of.

Hi, this seems like a wonderful project and lesson. I am going to share your project with my boys and we will collect a bunch of pennies and bring them by. My boys are too young to grasp the concept but it is never too early to collect pennies. Elisabeth we are proud of you and your eagerness to help others.
